New video for "Heart in your Heartbreak" by The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

I'm really enjoying what I've heard from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart's new album Belong. Not sure why, but it doesn't seem to be out in Canada yet.

In the meantime, check out this fun video.

Foo Fighters Covers

I'm not sure if Foo Fighters count as a guilty pleasure or not. I've liked them since before I knew that the band was led by the drummer from Nirvana. And I don't feel guilty for liking them. So my conclusion would have to be, no, they are not a guilty pleasure.

They like to do something I still like to do when I play music with friends. Perform a kick-ass cover. Especially if it's a kick-ass cover of a tune that might not have kicked ass so much in it's original version.

Here are some of my favourite cover tunes done by Foo Fighters. Here's them covering Wings "Band on the Run", Prince's "Darling Nikki" and Gerry Raferty's "Baker Street".

Their new album Wasting Light is out on April 12 and you can hear "Rope" here. Sounds good to me.

New Songs are Great, but Classics are Awesome

While I focus a lot on new music, and I love discovering new cool songs and new cool bands, I'm also a child of the 70s who grew up on what's now called classic rock and retro 80s.

One of my fave tunes from my childhood is Nazareth's "Holiday".

"Mama, mama, please, no more facelifts, I just don't know which one you is"

I like songs in The Black Keys

I was enthralled by previous tunes I've heard from The Black Keys, but I quite like what I've heard from their current release, Brothers.

Here's "Tighten Up" and "Howlin' For You".

The video for "Howlin' For You" looks like a Tarantino movie. What you talkin' 'bout Willis?

New Blood Red Shoes Video for "Light It Up"

I just happened to head over to Blood Red Shoes' web site to see if they happened to be coming to Toronto. No luck, but they have this video featured on their home page. Another great tune from Blood Red Shoes from their 2010 release Fire Like This.

April Fool's!

Being a kid in Canada in the 80s, I couldn't have avoided Chalk Circle even if I'd wanted to.

In honour of the date, here's their great tune "April Fool".
