WL16: Beliefs at Wavelength Festival - Concert Pictures

Beliefs were the third band to take the stage at The Garrison as part of the second night of Wavelength Festival. They were the one band on the entire bill that I had seen before, dating back about two years to a show they played at The Horseshoe, very early on in my concert photographing days.​

Once the psychedelic flowing lights were rearranged and smoke filled the stage, it was time for some Fender distortion to begin swirling around our heads as Beliefs began their set. They've got a sound that's at once familiar and original. The shoegaze distortion mixes with their songs' gorgeous melodies into all-too-pleasurable waves that wash over you from the set's beginning to it's end.

Wavelength Festival 16 - February 12-14, 2016 - Toronto

I wanted to check out Camp Wavelength Festival down on the Toronto Island this past summer. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it work. I truly hope I'm more successful with the winter version, which is coming up on February 12 through 14. This is their 16th annual festival and it features Duchess Says, Foxes in Fiction, Foxtrott, Thus Owls, Calvin Love, Soupcans, She Devils, Steven Lambke, Partner and more.

I'm looking forward to discovering a bunch of great new music, and to seeing some familiar bands, like Beliefs, who I shot at one of my first real photo gigs a The Horseshoe, and who I haven't seen in way too long. I'm also looking forward to Programm, Calvin Love, Partner, Thus Owls and Duchess Says.

New music from Beliefs new album Leaper - title track, Tidal Wave and 1992

I've only managed to catch Beliefs on stage one time, back in early 2014. Since then, I've enjoyed their music and have been looking forward to their new album Leaper. It's coming out on November 13 and we can check out a few tracks right now.

First up is the song and accompanying video for the title track. It's a thick, fuzzy mass of guitars and reverb with an easy-going melody. Then check out the more up-beat "Tidal Wave" and the cool "1992".

They're playing The Garrison on November 5 for the Leaper release party so get out there and check them out.

New music from Beliefs

I caught Beliefs early in 2014 opening for Toy at The Horseshoe. I've been looking forward to new music from the band and it looks like spring 2015 is when that will happen. Check out the tune "Tidal Wave" from their forthcoming album. There's no release date set but the album will be called Leaper.

Beliefs at The Horseshoe

Opening for New York's Spires and UK's Toy at The Horseshoe on January 14 were local shoegazers Beliefs. They did a great job of warming up the room and the crowd on a cold winter's night. 

I enjoyed Josh Korody and Jesse Crowe's vocal interplay, the swirling guitars and the cool tunes, and I wouldn't hesitate to see them again.

Their début album Self-Titled is out now and here is the video for "Lilly"
