Vancouver acid rockers Black Mountain headlined the September 23 bill at Yonge-Dundas Square celebration of Canada's Walk of Fame. They rocked out their powerful acid rock tunes with fantastic guitar riffs, classic rock homages and pounding drums accented by solid bass, singing keys and strong vocals.

Check out some of their tunes:

"Mothers of the Sun"

"Florian Saucer Attack"

"Tyrants"

"The Hair Song"

"Old Fangs"

New music from Black Mountain: Mothers of the Sun from IV

Black Mountain have a new album called IV  coming out on April 1. I guess my memory must be going on me because I seem to recall another darkly rocking band wrapped in mysticism with that same album title.

Check out the track "Mothers of the Sun" in all it's 70's acid-psych-rock glory below.

Vancouver acid/psych/classic rockers Black Mountain cruised through Toronto, stopping in at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern on July 18. A relentlessly enthusiastic crowd packed into the front-of-stage area to be close to this talented band. Their set featured extended, dynamic jams that highlighted the vocal and instrumental talent on stage. The Les Paul sounded amazing, their drummer beat his kit with massive force and it all came together in rock solid, glorious noise.

Five by Five: Five by Black

Black is about as rock and roll as a colour can be. Remember This is Spinal Tap when Nigel Tufnel describes their all-black album cover, "It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black."

Here are five awesome bands who dig on the "black".

The Black Keys. Blues innovators. Hard to find a song I haven't already featured on the site, so I'm going all the way back to 2008's Attack and Release for "Strange Times".

Black Mountain. Classic rockers from BC. Since I've featured "Old Fangs" and "The Hair Song" on the site before, here's the title track from Wilderness Heart.

Nine Black Alps. Pure alternative rock from Manchester. This is the great tune "My One And Only" from their latest album, 2012's Sirens.

Black Sabbath. Original horror rockers. I'm not going to feature their new album, 13. I'm going back to the first track from the classic 1970 album Paranoid. This is "War Pigs".

The Black Crowes. Classic American rock/blues act. Here's "Twice As Hard" from their début, Shake Your Money Maker.

My favourite songs: Awesome and cool songs of 2010-2011: my best of list: #9: "Old Fangs" by Black Mountain

Black Mountain are from BC in my wonderful home of Canada. They make instantly classic music that is reminiscent of many great rockers of days go by without being derivative. An awesome entry into the single-digits at number 9. Here's "Old Fangs" from the album Wilderness Heart.

Climb the Black Mountain

Like Louise Burns, who I featured the other day, Black Mountain are long-listed for the Polaris Prize. They deliver a hard-edged classic rock sound with chunky guitars, pounding drums, wailing keyboards and boy-girl vocals. What's not to like?

Here are videos for "Old Fangs" and "The Hair Song" from their latest Wilderness Heart.
