Riverfest Elora 2024: A compendium of posts - Concert Photos

It rained at Riverfest Elora 2024. I mean, it rained. I’ll be the first one to tell you that it always rains, at every music festival, and there’s usually some period of rain, rarely an early end to the night or a rejig of the schedule, but this time it rained all weekend long.

It was disappointing for everyone from the audience to the performers, the vendors, the crews, the volunteers, security, organizers, literally everyone, including us photographers.

I was looking forward to taking in Fleet Foxes on the Saturday night. I imagined their lush and intricate, emotional and enormously beautiful music rolling across Bissel Park and I was imagining a warm clear Elora evening for an artist whose sound I imagined would be an absolutely perfect fit for the vibe of Riverfest amongst the best of all Riverfest performances. Sadly, it was not to be.

The rain started as soon as festival opening artist Nyssa took the main stage. It became the theme of the weekend.

Although we were physically dampened, everyone made the best of it, embracing the rain until it became too much and the Saturday program had to be cut short.

The Violent Femmes never fail to put on an entertaining show. Their songs are universally loved and are great to sing along to. And that's exactly what the Riverfest Elora crowd did.

If you're familiar with Violent Femmes and their live show, you know exactly what went down, and if you know the songs but haven't experienced them live, then you should since you've got some idea of how much fun it would be to sing and dance to those tunes live. Their setlist is here.

And that's how Friday at Riverfest Elora ended. Click here to check out my other Riverfest Elora coverage and enjoy a Violent Femmes tune below.

TURF Day 2: Band 5: The Violent Femmes

The Violent Femmes released their eponymous début in 1983. I don't think you could find someone who grew up in this time period who listens to pop music who doesn't know at least some of the tunes from that album. And when Violent Femmes took to the stage on Day 2 of TURF, they played the whole thing, front-to-back.

I knew that I liked some Violent Femmes and I was interested to catch their set. I was lazy and didn't head down to the photo pit for their set. I wish I had.
They made one fan's dream come true. He was in the crowd with a sign that read, "Can I play tambourine for 'Add it Up'"? The band noticed and he got his wish. That's him to the right of the drummer in the pic above. At the time of this writing, a picture of him along with his sign is on the TURF home page.

The Violent Femmes' set was tons of fun. Check out some tunes:

"Blister in the Sun"

"Add It Up"

"Prove My Love"

"Gone Daddy Gone"

The remainder of their set was from the rest of their discography. Here's "American Music" from 1991's Why Do Birds Sing?
