Royal Mountain Records Festival held its inaugural event at Hamilton, Ontario's Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum this year. It was a fantastically well-run and chill festival on an absolutely beautiful site, with a fantastic line-up of some of my favourite Canadian bands. I truly hope that this festival becomes an annual event and that they even expand to include another stage on this wonderful grounds.

First off, the site is gorgeous. I love that the back of the stage was open to show the canopy of trees behind. I love the layout of the grounds showing the natural beauty of the arboretum. The stage looked amazing and changed scenes during the day. At first the beautiful foliage was on display, then the settings sun shone through. Then the leaves were lit up for night. It's a wondrous site I would love to experience many times over.

Then there was the lineup and organization. The festival was so excellently curated to provide an amazing vibe throughout the day. Polished and quick changeovers between acts with a cool set of tunes to fill the time between bands made the whole day enjoyable. Every member of the team that I encountered was friendly and accommodating. Everyone from the food vendors to the security staff to the first aid attendants worked together to make the day special.

Just one criticism; there was no running water on site to fill water bottles. Hopefully the RBG team can figure out how to make this happen for future years. Especially on a hot day such as this one, having the ability to fill your own water bottle is essential. And it leads to a more environmentally friendly festival with less waste without having to buy and dispose of one-time use bottles.

Click the links below to see my photos, read my thoughts and hear some tunes from each band that played.

Until next year...

Mac DeMarco headlined Royal Mountain Records inaugural Festival at Hamilton, Ontario's Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum. This marked my second time seeing Mac and his band play their chill tunes for a thrilled audience. My first time was back at Time Festival in 2015. Those photos are here.

If you know Mac, you know what an inclusive, welcoming good time he and the band produce. If you don't know Mac, check out the tunes and the vibe of the pics and go see his next live show near you.

Lots to like in this year's Wayhome line-up!

After a couple of mind-bending 360-degree YouTube videos, the actual line-up for this summer's Wayhome Music & Arts Festival has been unveiled. The festival takes place in Oro-Medonte Ontario on July 22, 23 and 24 and tickets go on sale February 16. Last year's fest got overwhelmingly positive reviews. I hope to be there this year to capture and share the bands and the experience.

As the headline reads, there's lots to like in this year's line-up. Here are a bunch of the bands that I'll be looking the most forward to seeing, starting from the top. As usual, I expect to make some great new discoveries further down the list. I've helpfully linked to my pics of any of the bands I've shot before.

Mac DeMarco has built a huge following on his easy-going, summery indie pop tunes. He brought his band and and their songbook along to the eclectic line-up at this year's Time Festival on August 15. Mac and co. are celebrating the release of his new album Another One. They were first band on as the sun went down and were the second last act to play. The very enthusiastic crowd loved every minute of it.

I think I'm getting Mac's appeal. It's the way his easy-going, affable personality and his open likeability come across in perfect complement to his sunshiny tunes. Speaking of tunes, the band treated us to music from his new album as well as the well-loved Salad Days. They even threw in a cover of "Blackbird" and jammed out on Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years".

Time Festival announces 2015 line-up

Time Festival is back this year at Fort York on August 15, presented by Embrace, and they've just announced the line-up. It's a diverse festival with elements of dance music, jazz, indie/alternative and Die Antwoord, a spectacle all their own.

I caught Die Antwoord at Riot Fest and can attest to their live show being a great one to experience. I also caught DIIV opening for Japandroids at the end of 2012 so I can vouch for their live show.

The line up includes headliners Die Antwoord along with Mac Demarco, Badbadnotgood, Ariel Pink, Yung Lean, Ryan Hemsworth, DIIV, Alison Wonderland, Tory Lanez, Tommy Kruise, Lobby, and Eliot Vincent Jones.

Early bird tickets are on sale now for $25.

Check out some of the artists at this years fest:

Die Antwoord "Ugly Boy"

Mac Demarco "Passing Out Pieces"

Ariel Pink – "Dayzed Inn Daydreams"

Badbadnotgood "Can't Leave the Night"

Ryan Hemsworth - Snow In Newark Ft. Dawn Golden

DIIV
"Doused"

"Wait"

"How Long Have You Known"

Alison Wonderland - U Don't Know ft. Wayne Coyne
