Sweden's Robyn headlined Sunday night of Field Trip. Due to the afternoon thunderstorm delay, all the remaining acts who performed had to have their sets cut short and the city provided permission to extend the usual Sunday night curfew from 10pm to 10:30. Robyn took advantage of every extra minute available to ensure that the people of Field Trip got their Sunday night dance party on.

For this show, and her other American summer festival performances, Robyn performed exclusive live remixes of some of her most-loved tracks, by some of her favourite dance artists. These remixes will be released in the coming month.

The remixes to be released are:
Axel Boman "Hang With Me"
Cassius "Dancing On My Own"
Harry "Choo Choo" Romero "Love Kills"
Joakim "With Every Heartbeat"
Mr. Tophat "Main Thing"
The Black Madonna "Indestructible"
The Mekanism "Don’t Fucking Tell Me What To Do"
Wolfgang Voigt "Who Do You Love?" from Otherness by Kindness
Zhala & Heal the World "Stars 4 Ever"

And here are the original versions of my favourite Robyn tunes that she performed:

"Hang With Me"

"Dancing on my Own"

"Indestructible"

"With Every Heartbeat"

Very interesting covers by Ted Leo

In news from several years ago, but still this decade, Ted Leo posted some electric guitar and vocal covers of some famous tunes by Robyn, Concrete Blonde and Sade. So, of course, I had to get right in there to post them here. Years later. Whatever.

Robyn "With Every Heartbeat"

Concrete Blonde "Joey"

Sade "By Your Side"

And in even older news, here's Ted covering Kelly Clarkson "Since U Been Gone" and Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Maps" from 2007.

You can download the Robyn cover from Pitchfork.

Robyn on the Tonight Show

I've never been shy about my fondness for Robyn tunes. Here she is on the Tonight Show performing "Call Your Girlfriend" from Body Talk. Awesome! Don't you just love a pop performer who really sings and dances like she means it!

And here's the video for one of my absolute faves, "Hang with Me".

Robyn: Versions of Her Great Pop Songs Delivered in an Intimate Setting

I like a good pop song, and Robyn delivers good pop songs. Several months ago, I saw this video of an intimate performance of a different take on her song "Bum Like You". I love the immediacy of the performance and the way that the shift in instrumentation and tempo, combined with Robyn's emotive delivery, really elevated the song.

The songs are part of something that Cherrytree Records puts on called The Cherrytree House. They’ve also been released as an EP that’s available on iTunes. The original versions are on Robyn’s eponymous album, also on iTunes.
