I had a great time in 2018, in spite of the negativity that was flowing so heavily from so many sources. The music and the bands and the friends that surround them were my salvation. The positive energy and empowering messages coming from stage and speakers did a lot to help me from spiralling into the despair that politics, and the ugliness it emboldened, encouraged.

Please check out my other "best of" posts. My 20 Favourite Albums of 2018 list is here and I'll link my Favourite Concert Photos of 2018 when I have that finalized.

The hyperlinks in the song titles will take you to the tune itself if you want to check it out, the hyperlinks below each song link to my coverage of the artists, including my photos from those particular performances.

As always, thanks so much to the promoters, publicists, bands, management, festivals and venues that allow me to do this thing that I love to do.

All the best as we sail into 2019, whatever it happens to hold for us. Let's be positive, encouraging, empowering and above all, kind and understanding. It will go a long way to making the world a better place.

I love An Horse. The Australian duo's 2008 album Rearrange Beds is one of my favourite albums, packed with great tunes like "Camp Out", "Postcards", "Company", "Horizons", "Rearrange Beds" and "Little Little Little". Their 2011 follow up Walls was amazing too, with standout tunes like "Dressed Sharply", "Airport Death" and "Leave Me".

And then they were gone.

Fast forward to spring 2018 when I was so happy to see an announcement that An Horse was back and hitting the road with new music. Their new tune "Get Out Somehow" sounded awesome and I knew I wanted to cover their June 10 show at Hard Luck Bar in Toronto with Camp Cope, another Australian band that was embedding itself in my consciousness, complimented by local openers Fxrrvst. Click through to my coverage of those acts.

This was An Horse's first tour in 6 years, the last night of the tour, and their third date with Camp Cope. I loved every second of it. Singer/guitarist Kate Cooper and drummer/vocalist Damon Cox sounded awesome. We got all the great tunes that I'd been longing to hear live for so long, along with strong new tunes like "Get Out Somehow". Can't wait for more music and their next tour stop in Toronto.

Give An Horse some well-deserved time with your ears:

"Get Out Somehow"

"Airport Death"

An Horse have a new album called Walls

I posted about An Horse some time ago. They've recently released their second album called Walls. Here's "Dressed Sharply".

Emerging: An Horse

An Horse, is an Australian band that I became aware of in the past several months. I think it was a blog post over at Chromewaves that first mentioned the band to me.

The first song I heard was the first single, "Camp Out". There's video of it being performed on Letterman. Based on the strength of that track and the samples on iTunes, I picked up the album.

Here's the official "Camp Out" video. Great song.

Overall, the album is very strong. The simple instrumentation and strong vocals really make the songwriting shine through. Their latest single is "Postcards".

An Horse are in Toronto opening for Cage the Elephant and Silversun Pickups on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Sound Academy.  Tour dates at the bands' sites.

Here' the video for Cage the Elephant's "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked"

Lots of Silversun Pickups videos on their video page. If you're new to these guys, I'd recommend starting with "Lazy Eye" from Carnarvas and "Panic Switch" from their new one, Swoon.
