It rained at Riverfest Elora 2024. I mean, it rained. I’ll be the first one to tell you that it always rains, at every music festival, and there’s usually some period of rain, rarely an early end to the night or a rejig of the schedule, but this time it rained all weekend long.
It was disappointing for everyone from the audience to the performers, the vendors, the crews, the volunteers, security, organizers, literally everyone, including us photographers.
I was looking forward to taking in Fleet Foxes on the Saturday night. I imagined their lush and intricate, emotional and enormously beautiful music rolling across Bissel Park and I was imagining a warm clear Elora evening for an artist whose sound I imagined would be an absolutely perfect fit for the vibe of Riverfest amongst the best of all Riverfest performances. Sadly, it was not to be.
The rain started as soon as festival opening artist Nyssa took the main stage. It became the theme of the weekend.
Although we were physically dampened, everyone made the best of it, embracing the rain until it became too much and the Saturday program had to be cut short.
