I can't seem to stop listening to Tancred's music. This fact solidly put their gig opening for one of my all-time favourite bands, The Joy Formidable, on my must-attend list. Tancred produces some amazing tunes. Great melodic and guitar hooks, with powerful chords and rhythms, with enough familiar elements to spark my nostalgia while being impressed with the unique overall musical flavour.

The band's live set was perfect in relation to their recorded output. The songs sounded as incredible as you'd expect with the added volume, and Jess Abbott's personality comes across impressively with the music. The band features great guitar interplay, cool energy and a bunch of familiar sonic touchpoints. Parts of Tancred's sound remind me so much of some of my favourite artist from the 90s, while being totally fresh and wondrous.

Between their albums and this live show, Tancred have become an awesome discovery for me. I love the music, plus the live show, and now I’m looking forward to them returning to Toronto for their show at Lee's Palace on January 23 with Mineral.
