Lavender Wild Festival: A compendium of posts - Concert Photos

This past Sunday, June 4 was a crazy traffic day in Toronto. Two of the four main highways that circle the city were closed for the Ride for Brain Health. It's a great cause and it's a fun ride (it's pretty awesome to ride a bike on the highway) but it snarls traffic pretty brutally.

So it took ages for me to get to Echo Beach for Lavender Wild Festival, and I missed the first act, but I'm happy I made it. 

Lavender Wild is a one-day music and art festival celebrating queerness. Girl In Red, Hayley Kiyoko, The Aces and G Flip were some of the headliners on a day packed with positive vibes. And it was a beautiful day for it! I hope that Lavender Wild will become an annual fixture on the Toronto music festival scene.

Girl In Red at Lavender Wild Festival - Concert Photos

Oslo's Girl In Red was the headliner for Lavender Wild and took to the main stage a while after sunset.

The set started off with high, high energy. Girl In Red rocketed from one side of the stage to the other, giving out as much energy as the crowd could give back. 

They played a set filled with great tunes including "girls", "body and mind", "we fell in love in october", "serotonin", "bad idea!", "dead girl in the pool", and "did you come?". It was a great way to end off a perfect day of music, sun, love, positive vibes and inclusivity.

Hayley Kiyoko was just in Toronto on May 27 performing a show at The Danforth Music Hall, so it was very cool that she was in Toronto again so soon for her set at Lavender Wild.

I found their set to be packed with tons of energy and mountains of fun. The crowd loved every second of the set and I can understand why. One of my favourite things about attending music festivals is discovering artists that I hadn't had a chance to listen to yet, or full, brand new discoveries. Hayley and her music was a definite Lavender Wild highlight and marks a great new discovery for me!

The Aces performed this past Sunday afternoon at Lavender Wild festival at Echo Beach in Toronto.

The band plays energetic and groovy indie pop rock tunes. They had lots of fun and the crowd joined them in an exciting set. They included a cover of The Who's "My Generation" in their set.

Their new album I've Loved You For So Long just came out on Friday. During the show, they announced that they’re back in Toronto for a show of their own in the fall! I hope to be there.

G Flip at Lavender Wild Festival - Concert Photos

G Flip was one of the artists I was most looking forward to experiencing at Lavender Wild festival. This show marked G Flip's first time in Canada, ever.

I loved G Flip's set. It had great energy, cool tunes, and a positive vibe. She has such a great rock and roll voice! Her set was packed with catchy tunes that you can experience on your favourite music service or, even better, if you see her live.

Some highlights of the set were "Worst Person Alive", "Lover", a cheeky cover of The Zutons "Valerie", "Be Your Man" and "Gay 4 Me".

Kaleena Zanders was up next on the Lavender Wild main stage with a set filled with danceable beats, cool hooks and strong vocals. Zanders' fun tunes kept the crowd dancing!

Jade LeMac at Lavender Wild Festival - Concert Photos

Jade LeMac was the second performer up on the Lavender Wild main stage and the first performance that I caught at Sunday's festival.

Jade is from Vancouver and this set marked her very first live performance. I enjoyed her emotional and passionate songs and her powerful vocals. A couple of set highlights were "Car Accident" and "Constellations". Her EP Constellations is out now. Her setlist from this show is here.
