I love a powerful rock song; a huge chorus with strong vocals, cool hooks, huge guitars, great keys, and a rock solid rhythm section. Call it rock, classic rock, power pop, pop-rock or whatever else you want to call it. Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs hit that spot for me.
After live music ground to a halt after mid-March 2020, I was so ready to hear powerful rock songs live again. It was so good to see and hear Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs crank out their songs live again at The Phoenix Concert Theatre. Although the audience had to stay in their seating areas for the show, and the capacity of The Phoenix was severely limited, we got to experience live music again. It was a demonstration of human resilience and our unshakeable desire to share music with our fellow humans in a collective experience.
Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs played tunes from their latest release, Real One, their 2017 self-titled release. We got to experience favourites both new and familiar including "Back with the Gang", "Talk to Her", "You Don’t Have to be Nice" including an appearance by the double-neck, "PhD", "Tough", Real One" and more.
Montreal power trio Les Shirley opened up the show. Check out my coverage of their show right here.
Check out my previous coverage of the band from when Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs first blew me away at Riverfest Elora, and from awesome shows at The Phoenix Concert Theatre, The Elora Brewing Company, Jasper Dandy, and The Garrison.
Take a listen to some Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs music and catch these guys next time they're playing a show near you.
