Liverpool pop rock trio The Wombats played Toronto's Danforth Music Hall for one of the most fun dance party shows of the year. They play some of the catchiest, danceable pop tunes ever crammed into one set.

They reminisced about past gigs in Toronto including small shows at The Cameron House and The Drake Hotel. They even thought they might have played "Patricia the Stripper" for the first time in Toronto.

Their best tunes all feature fun beats, great hooks, uplifting and catchy singalong choruses, and they've got a greatest hits album full of them. You’re guaranteed a good time at a Wombats gig.

This was actually my second Wombats gig. I caught their set at Bestival Toronto back in 2016. Check out those photos here.

Check out my photos of opener Barns Courtney and his band here, and take a listen to just some of the infectious hits The Wombats played for us in their hit-filled setlist below:

"Give Me A Try"

"1996"

"Techno Fan"

"Lemon to a Knife Fight"

"Jump Into The Fog"

"Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)"

"Let's Dance to Joy Division"

"Turn"

"Greek Tragedy"

Bestival Toronto 2016: A compendium of posts - Concert pictures

This year's Bestival Toronto marked my first Bestival experience and I thought it was an incredible spectacle and sensational event. It really takes the festival experience up several notches beyond the typical music festival that provides a few of stages in a field intermixed with beer tents and food trucks.

There are so many things to see and do at Bestival outside of the fantastic musical line-up and the crowd really goes above and beyond, dressing up and making it a real occasion. Bestival features many stages with distinctive vibes from The Main Stage to The Big Top to the Bollywood Stage to the Sunday Best Balearic Bar and the Cosmic Commune. There are activities and games, entertaining staff/actors, the Inflatable Church, the Summer of Love Costume Parade & Party, roving entertainers and costumed characters, and so much more.

I can't wait for next year and hope to see other festivals taking on more of a spectacle vibe over and above the great music.

Please check out all the posts and photos that Roy Cohen and I captured from the Bestival Toronto 2016 weekend:

Liverpool indie pop rock band The Wombats played the Main Stage of Bestival Toronto's second day. Their songs are classic pop tunes with lots of hooks, groove and energy. The band is entertaining to watch as they deliver their up-beat and exquisitely catchy tunes. This show marked their first Canadian festival and they'll be back in-country for Osheaga next month.

They got the crowd dancing and singing along with favourites including "Give Me A Try", "Jump in to the Fog", "1996", "Techno Fan", "Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)", "Greek Tragedy", and "Let's Dance to Joy Division".

At the end of their set, Matthew Murphy exclaimed, "Fuck it. We're going to do one more riff. Might be a bit heavy but fuck it." I'm pretty sure it was an instrumental version of Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name". Nice touch.
