Toronto post-punk band Casper Skulls has become one of my favourite bands. Their songs are heartfelt and engaging. Their shows always engage and inspire. Each release brings new melodies to fill my soul.

This show was to celebrate The Garrison's tenth anniversary. It's a huge milestone in an environment where so many live music venues disappear. The Garrison has hosted so many amazing shows over the years and I know I'm looking forward to what they'll bring in the next decade.

Casper Skulls was a great choice to headline this night, both because of how awesome they are and how much of a Toronto music scene fixture they are, but for me personally since The Garrison is the venue where I first witnessed the band.

The set was awesome, as always. Hearing their new and older songs made me feel much better about the world. It's one of the things I need from live music. Highlights of "Lingua Franca", "Colour of the Outside" and "Primeval" were soooo good.

If you haven't already, please check out the previous coverage of Casper Skulls when they played Recroom, The Baby G, The Horseshoe, the Recroom again, Lee's Palace, Lee's Palace again and my first Casper Skulls show at The Garrison.

If you're not already a Casper Skulls fan, please give their music a listen below and please check out my coverage of the other bands on this night's bill: Canyun, Komodo and Catholic Wilt. And click here for the coverage of Sam Coffey and The Iron Lungs from the previous night's celebration.

Casper Skulls are always great. Their songs have depth and character. Their shows are dynamic and engaging with intensity. They just get better and better. They're a fantastic band that deserves your attention.

This particular show was at The Recroom with Chastity, Greys and surprise guests Alexisonfire. Click through for all those pics.

Casper Skulls played a bunch of my favourites including new tune "O My Enemy", the amazing "Lingua Franca", "Colour of the Outside" and closed with "Primeval".

We've covered them a ton on One In Ten Words and hope to do so many more times in future. Here are our shots from The Baby G, The Horseshoe, The Recroom in 2017, Lee's Palace, again at Lee's Palace and The Garrison.

Give them a listen and go to a show.

We’ve covered Casper Skulls a whole bunch here on one in ten words. I’ve always been impressed with their tunes and performances, and I’ve loved watching them grow along with their sound and presence. This band is just on the cusp of greater and greater things. Their older tunes sound as solid as ever and their new music continues to push into new territories.

On this night at The Baby G, they were preceded by The Spirit of the Beehive and Horse Jumper of Love. Click through to check out my coverage of those artists as well.

For my previous Casper Skulls coverage, click on the venue names: Horseshoe Tavern, Rec Room, Lee's Palace, Lee's Palace and The Garrison.

CMW 2018: A compendium of posts featuring July Talk, Ought, Casper Skulls, Kandle, Pkew Pkew Pkew, Pony, Begonia and more

Canadian Music Week was a little more low-key for me than usual. Just two nights of amazing music.

Friday, May 11 was the Audiotree North Launch Party at The Horseshoe Tavern with several familiar bands and one cool new discovery.

Thursday, May 10 was the Sleepless Records showcase at The Horseshoe Tavern with secret guest July Talk.

Follow the links to check out all my pics, my thoughts on the shows and some music from each artist!

I've covered a lot of Casper Skulls on this site. First at The Garrison, then at Lee's Palace, again at Lee's Palace for CMW 2017, and most recently a Christmas Krampus party at The Rec Room.

Casper Skulls' shows are always a great time. Their songs are incredible. Their performances get more and more intense every time I see them.

This particular show was at The Horseshoe Tavern for Canadian Music Week and the launch of Audiotree North.

If you've seen them before, you know. If you haven't seen them, you should. Now please listen. That is all.

During 2017 I've probably listened to the least music than I have in the past decade. Most of my favourite tunes of the year came from shows I've seen, bands I'm familiar with and many tunes that just happened to hit my ears the right way. Many of the loves of this year have not been deep and meaningful; they've been brief and fleeting one night stands of aural bliss. Forgive me.

Buzz Records and Indie 88 presented A Very Special Krampus Party at entertainment complex and new music venue The Rec Room on December 9. It featured headliners Charly Bliss along with the incredible Casper Skulls, Twist and Lonely Parade.

I've seen Toronto post-punk band Casper Skulls a few times now, and I like them more and more with each listening. I'm loving their latest album Mercy Works and I'm sure it will make it onto my best of list for this year.

I first saw Casper Skulls at The Garrison opening for Screaming Females in 2015. Roy Cohen caught them at Lee's Palace in 2016. I then saw them at CMW 2017 at Lee's Palace. Click through on those venue names to see those pics.

This time my expectations were raised and I still came away impressed. Not much more I can say about this band's powerful and gigantic sounding songs, strong melodies and always greater intensity that I haven't already said before. Listen to them. Go see them. Buy their music. Love them.
