I've seen Radkey twice now. Once at The Garrison opening for Blood Red Shoes and once at Riot Fest Toronto. They have just released a new tune called "Parade It" from their forthcoming album. It's an immediate tune complete with chunky guitars, pounding drums and bass, plus lyrics of "love that's really got me down". They worked on their début full-length album in Sheffield with producer Ross Orton. Watch for it this summer and watch for this band on the road including Coachella, Reading and Leeds. They put on a great live show.

Riot Fest Toronto 2014: Day 2 Summary
Riot Fest's Toronto incarnation took place on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7. I got to attend the full, muddy weekend and shoot 27 bands in total. You can find my Day 1 Summary here.
Day 2 seemed to have more people in attendance and more excitement in the audience. It was certainly more aligned to my overall taste, with a more indie-alternative bent.
A great weekend of great music and lots of photos. Here are links to all the posts, all in one place.

Riot Fest 2014 Day 2 Band 9: Radkey
The cranked out the tunes with full blast energy for a small but attentive audience. They were on at the same time as Die Antwoord and they met the high volume and bass output of Die Antwoord with high volume of their own.
Check out some Radkey tunes and make sure you see them on their next visit to Canada.
"Romance Dawn"
"Start Freaking Out"
"Red Letter"

Radkey introduce themselves to Canada at The Garrison
I caught Radkey's aggressive, energy-packed show when they opened for the incredible Blood Red Shoes at The Garrison in Toronto. They're a fast, punky power trio from Missouri that feature crunchy power chords, relentless bass and drums, and attitude-filled vocals, all delivered at a high tempo. This show was their first Canadian show.
I think that Radkey suffer from what a lot of lesser known bands face when they're opening a show. They were expecting to be largely ignored. They weren't expecting us to stand up. They weren't expecting us to approach the stage. Well, Toronto audiences may have a rep for being laid back and sometimes too cool and for talking through shows, but Radkey got a welcome surprise when the audience approached the stage and grooved to their punky tunes.
They played a solid set that didn't let up on the energy. Check out their tunes below. The next time these guys play Toronto there will be a pit of mayhem in front of them. Mark my words.
They even did a cover of The Misfits "Last Caress". Cool.
They've got two EPs out if you dig what you hear here:
"Romance Dawn"
"Start Freaking Out"
"Feed My Brain"
"Pretty Things"
"Cat and Mouse"
"Overwhelmed"
They're in Toronto again for Riot Fest on September 6-7. Don't forget to enter my Riot Fest ticket giveaway.
