Field Trip 2018: A Compendium of Posts - Concert Photos

Field Trip is always a highlight of the summer festival season. This 2018 edition was extra special. There were so many of my favourite acts that I was either seeing for the first time or was seeing put on some amazing performances. This was my first time seeing Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, Bahamas, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Haerts, Allan Rayman and more. I experienced great performances from bands I'd already seen before including Metric, Japandroids, Partner, Dizzy and Ellevator.

There were also a number of new discoveries for me; artists I wasn't familiar with going in that I walked away a fan of. These included Middle Kids, Allie X, Liza Anne, Jacob Banks, Pierre Kwenders and Charlotte Cardin. This is absolutely one of my favourite things about music festivals; discovering great new artists.

Field Trip 2018: Day 2: Allie X on the Garrison Stage - Concert Photos

Toronto singer/songwriter Allie X is the very definition of a multi-faceted pop artist. Not content to write and perform her indie pop tunes, she puts on an elaborate performance including eye-grabbing costumes that she strips away as the show progresses, starting out hiding behind a veil with facial features on it, then shifting focus to a puffy, billowy, vibrant dress and then a sequinned black gown, all while pacing the stage and belting out her tunes.

Of course the songs are the main event; the performance doesn’t rely on the costumes but is complemented by the visual dazzle. With a great band, a powerful presence, awesome voice, and uber-catchy songs Allie X delivers her music to the Field Trip crowd.
