As far as I know, Royal Mountain Records started their backyard barbecue series with the NXNE showcase. I say "series" and "started" consciously, because I really want this to become a regular thing. It's such a cool vibe, hanging out behind the RMR offices, listening to amazing bands, having some good food and frosty beverages. The crowd and the bands are so easy going, inclusive and fun, that it would be hard not to want this to be a regular part of summertime in Toronto.

Toronto-based indie rock band Fast Romantics are a great band to see live. They took a break from recording their new album to play for us at Royal Mountain Records Goodbye to Summer BBQ. We got to hear some older favourites and some songs from the forthcoming album.
The word “rousing” always comes to mind to describe their passionate and energizing songs. They've got huge power chord progressions, dynamic shifts that create drama, and elements I would describe as orchestral. Overall it's a great package.

It’s been a few years, but one thing’s consistent, the great sound of Fast Romantics. I’ve seen them before at Riverfest Elora in 2016 and at The Drake Underground in Toronto in 2014. The band’s largely unchanged and their new tunes sound just as great as their earlier material. I think the Hillside crowd agreed with me and had a great time at their set.

I first saw Fast Romantics perform when they hit up The Drake Underground for their first Toronto show with two new band members in late 2014. I got to see them again as the first act to perform on "The Koop" a.k.a. the Tent Stage at Riverfest Elora on Friday, August 19.
The band seemed to be in great spirits and put on a fun show, including the SOCAN award winning tune "Julia". They didn't even let hardware problems slow them down when an ill-functioning mike stand was replaced by a smiling member of the Fast Romantics audience for "Funeral Song". The band has a ton of fun and this is infectiously picked up by the audience.
