This year may mark my first Venus Fest, but I truly hope it won't be my last. I found it a positive and enriching experience that I was happy to capture and share.
Venus Fest presented feminism in the arts with a positive, constructive, inclusive, powerful, joyous, beautiful and empowering vibe. The music at night was complemented by various workshops held during the day.
Please take a look at my coverage of both Friday and Sunday nights' musical line-up by following the links below.
Charlotte Cardin had the honour of headlining the third and final night of this year's Venus Fest. This was my second time seeing Charlotte and her band perform and it was a must-see set for me personally. My photos of Charlotte's performance at Field Trip in 2018 are right here if you want to take a look.
I absolutely love Charlotte Cardin's music and charming stage presence. She writes and performs simply gorgeous love songs. She possesses a beautiful voice that resonates through my very soul, lifting me up and filling me with good feelings that I don’t have too often lately.
We got to hear many favourites and a brand new unreleased song called "Passive Aggressive".

I arrived at the Sunday night of Venus Fest a little late, since I was coming from The Phoenix Concert Theatre where I photographed K.Flay's awesome performance.
I arrived at The Opera House just in time for TRP.P's very cool set. The duo's name is pronounced "trippy".
I would describe TRP.P's music as hip-hop infused R&B or R&B infused hip-hop. It all comes with a positive vibe and absolutely incredible singing. They performed a tribute to Amy Winehouse by performing "Tears Dry on Their Own". TRP.P's set was joyous and inspiring, filling the heart with love.

The Vaselines are a legendary Glasgow Scotland alternative rock band, that formed in 1986. They were here in duo form, to perform a Venus Fest set on The Opera House stage.
The Vaselines are perhaps most famous for having their song "Molly’s Lips" covered by Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was well known for trying to bring excellent music to a larger audience, and this cover is but one example. The Vaselines' version is embedded below.
I loved seeing the performance and hearing the songs, as well as the banter between the two. Take a listen to The Vaselines' music below.

The Weather Station's Venus Fest set at The Opera House was heartfelt and easy going. I’m really impressed with the songs, the singing and the musicianship in the band. The songs are at once intimate and personal, while being sprawling and musically rich.

Fiver took to The Opera House stage for their Venus Fest set, which was a varied collection of songs that progressed from ambitious and intricate to country chords and slide guitar crying to magnetic droning intensity. Cool.

Dorothea Paas was the first artist to take to The Opera House stage for my very first edition of Venus Fest.
Dorothea and her bassist performed a short set of delicate, insightful, relatable and personal songs. Some of her lyrics really hit home with me and personal struggles. We’ve all felt that feeling where it seems like a song is just for you and that perfectly reflects the feelings that you're struggling with.
