New video from Split Single: Fragmented World

I've mentioned Split Single's finely crafted power pop a few times before. The Fragmented World album has yielded "Monolith" and "Last Goodbye" and featured prominently on my Best Albums and Best Songs lists for 2014. Now they've released a clip for the title track, "Fragmented World". Looks like Jason's having a bad day with a great song as the soundtrack.

Best of: My top 25 favourite albums of 2014

As 2014 draws to a close, I've taken a few moments to assess my favourite albums of the year. This list is always harder, and shorter, for me than the songs list. A song jumps into my consciousness quickly and I can say, "Yup. Great tune!" much more easily than I can say, "Wow. Solid album."

The other thing I've noticed is that I've seen 18 of the 25 artists on this list live in the past year. Perhaps that's a reason for more of the bands' tunes making an impact.

So, for better or for worse, here's my list of my 25 favourite albums of the past year.

1. Augustines Augustines

2. Royal Blood Royal Blood

3. Public Animal Habitat Animal

4. Bob Mould Beauty and Ruin

5. The Balconies Fast Motions

6. Strand of Oaks Heal

7. Lowell We Loved Her Dearly

8. Split Single Fragmented World

9. Little Foot Long Foot Woman

10. Kasabian 48:13

11. Blood Red Shoes Blood Red Shoes

12. The Districts The Districts

13. Haerts Haerts

14. Dinosaur Pile-Up Nature Nurture

15. The Hold Steady Teeth Dreams

16. Owl John Owl John

17. The C'Mons Places

18. Spoon They Want My Soul

19. Drowners Drowners

20. Mounties Thrash Rock Legacy

21. Elbow The Take Off And Landing Of Everything

Split Single catch up

Jason Narducy's power pop project Split Single with Jon Wurster and Britt Daniel has a great album called Fragmented World that came out earlier this year. They recently released a video for the tune "Monolith". Check it out! It's a great tune!

The band also performed a brand new tune called "Glori" on KEXP. Give 'er a listen! It's got me looking forward to the second Split Single album already.

And they covered TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me" for AV Club.

I really want to see this band live. My pic above is of Jason playing with Bob Mould at Riot Fest.

New video from Spilt Single

Jason Narducy, who I know as the bass player in Bob Mould's band, decided to put out an album of his own under the name Split Single. He recruited Jon Wurster and Britt Daniel to be his rhythm section. Not too shabby.

I featured a few tunes (2/3 are now gone from Soundcloud) back in March. A little bit ago, they put out a video for the tune "Last Goodbye". Here it is, along with a "making of Fragmented World" video featuring folks like Dave Grohl and Bob Mould in addition to Wurster and Daniel.

The album Fragmented World is out now.

In case you missed it, here is "Waiting For The Sun".

Split Single deliver power pop goodness

Jason Narducy, Britt Daniel and Jon Wurster have put together a power pop supergroup in Split Single. These guys are indie rock royalty. Narducy plays bass for Bob Mould among others. Wurster plays drums for Bob Mould, Superchunk and others, in addition to having a pretty hysterical Twitter. Daniel sings and plays guitar for Spoon and Divine Fits. He handles bass duties for Split Single.

The album Fragmented World comes out April 1. Can't wait to hear more!

Check out a few tunes:

"Monolith"

"Waiting for the Sun"

"Last Goodbye"
