Warpaint at The Danforth Music Hall - Concert Pictures

Thick smoke and vivid, oversaturated coloured lights bathed the Danforth Music Hall stage for Warpaint's October 3 headlining show. The Los Angeles indie rock band are on tour supporting their latest album Heads Up and this marked my second time seeing them live. The first time was at NXNE 2015. Those pics are here.

Simultaneously soothing, energizing and relaxing, the sounds of Warpaint are beauty to my ears. After shooting the first three songs, I didn't take my usual few words of notes, I just found a comfy spot to stand and I bathed in the sights and sounds of the rest of Warpaint's set. It was perfection.

The Faint at Velvet Underground - Concert Pictures

Omaha indie rock band The Faint came through Toronto on October 2 for a show at Velvet Underground.  They had a cool light show and delivered their high octane tunes with tremendous energy and got huge cheers for their efforts.

The band sounded great and the production values of their recorded output was expertly translated to their live sound. Their set had many highlights including "The Geeks Were Right", "Worked Up So Sexual", my favourite tune "Drop Kick the Punks", "Young and Realistic" from their latest album CAPSULE:1999-2016 was the song Todd Fink was most excited to play, "I Disappear" and "Agenda Suicide" were great closing tunes. "Paranoiattack" was a perfect encore tune and "Glass Dance" got the whole crowd bouncing to close out the night.

Gang of Four at Velvet Underground - Concert Pictures

Uber-influential English post-punk group Gang of Four, featuring sole original member, guitarist Andy Gill, played Toronto's Velvet Underground, opening for The Faint, on October 2. I've been a Gang of Four fan since I first heard the relentless riff and beat of "Naturals Not In It" back in the day. This show marked my first time seeing the band live and it was a great experience.

Gill's guitar sound and playing were awesome. The band's stone-faced posing and heaps of attitude perfectly complimented the solid beats and bass, angular riffs and discordant swaths. There was plenty of on-stage chaos with band members running into each other and creating cable spaghetti as they criss-crossed the stage, while singer John "Gaoler" Sterry utilized all three vocal mics. As The Faint singer Todd Fink would later say about them, they're so fucking cool.
