Lots to like in this year's Wayhome line-up!

After a couple of mind-bending 360-degree YouTube videos, the actual line-up for this summer's Wayhome Music & Arts Festival has been unveiled. The festival takes place in Oro-Medonte Ontario on July 22, 23 and 24 and tickets go on sale February 16. Last year's fest got overwhelmingly positive reviews. I hope to be there this year to capture and share the bands and the experience.

As the headline reads, there's lots to like in this year's line-up. Here are a bunch of the bands that I'll be looking the most forward to seeing, starting from the top. As usual, I expect to make some great new discoveries further down the list. I've helpfully linked to my pics of any of the bands I've shot before.

New video from Gary Clark Jr. When My Train Pulls In

Austin blues guitar god Gary Clark Jr. has just released a video for "When My Train Pulls In" from his recently released Live album.

Gary's a powerful live performer so if you get the chance, I'd say see him live.

TURF Day 1: Band 3: Gary Clark Jr.

Gary Clark Jr. and his band were everything I knew they would be. They were the first band I caught on the main stage of the Toronto Urban Roots festival. I think it's the highest stage I ever photographed a band on. It was easily over six feet tall. It made getting good shots of the bassist, who liked to hang out at the back of the stage, quite difficult.
Gary Clark Jr. and his band delivered virtuoso blues guitar playing and smooth vocals with a tight groove from the rhythm section. I won't throw out the comparisons you can probably make from the description I just gave. Check out some tunes below and listen to the passion and musicianship. This is the kind of music that does your soul good.
"Numb"

"Ain't Messin' Round"

"Don't Owe You A Thang"

"Bright Lights"

Guitar heroics from Gary Clark Jr.

I'm a guitar player and I grew up with guitar god influences from the classic rock and heavy metal worlds. I didn't know that I missed any of that in the world of indie, until I heard a bit of Gary Clark Jr. on Conan. Not that I'm saying there are no good guitars in indie, there are. Especially from bands like The Joy Formidable, Biffy Clyro and Bob Mould just to rhyme off a few. It's just that "reach for that great blues-y vibrato high note" kind of playing isn't heard that much these days.

So here's that track "Numb" from Blak and Blu that I caught on Conan. Tell me you don't agree that he's got a sound we don't hear too much these days.

Maybe I'll put up a post about Van Halen one of these days.
