Muna at The Danforth Music Hall - Concert Photos

I caught LA's Muna play at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall sandwiched between Grouplove and Dilly Dally. Nice place to be.

Dilly Dally at The Danforth Music Hall - Concert Photos

I love seeing bands that I like more than once but I don't usually come up with many new insights to use to describe them.

Dilly Dally came away as one of my favourite experiences at Riverfest Elora. Singer's style of switching from sweetness to growl and complete natural comfort in front of the crowd is all part of the experience. They tweeted out that they were scaring Grouplove fans and I believe it, although I'm sure they won over more than they truly scared off. With a home town Toronto crowd I'm sure there were many people like me who were there just as much to see Dilly Dally as Grouplove.

They're a great band. I prescribe a consistent dose of their music followed by a live music treatment.

Kongos at The Danforth Music Hall - Concert Photos

The South African alternative band of brothers Kongos was a pretty unknown quantity to me before they took the stage at one of my favourite Toronto venues, The Danforth Music Hall. Their song "Come With Me Now" is unescapable but other than that I didn't know much about them. 

I came away impressed with their show's great sound, cool lighting and screen show, and their solid songs. They managed to make accordion sound cool and managed to bring something unique to their visual show, with smoke rings that floated across the venue during "I'm only Joking". 

As a photographer I also found their photo policy very cool and something that I wish more bands would pick up on. We were allowed to shoot the first three songs from the front of stage photo pit area and then we were allowed to shoot from around the venue for the rest of the show. This gives us the opportunity to share more of what the show as like from around the venue.

The Joy Formidable at The Danforth Music Hall - Concert Photos

North Wales alternative rock band The Joy Formidable make one of my favourite cacophonies  The coexistence and counterpoint of beauty and bombast makes them one of the most engaging bands out there. Their live show and albums are consistently great and the fact that they're not headlining to much bigger audiences is one of the great injustices in the music world today.

The three piece stopped in Toronto's Danforth Music Hall in support of their latest album and open for Kongos. They managed to fit in some of my favourite tunes in an all-too-short set that left me, and hopefully much of the crowd, hungry for more.

Let's hope they pass through Toronto again on this tour and hopefully for a headlining show.
