This particular special guest was announced a bit ahead of time, and tickets were snapped up instantly. The special guests were July Talk and the opportunity to see them perform in the relatively tiny confines of The Horseshoe, as opposed to venues they'd recently played, like a multi-night stand at The Danforth Music Hall and Massey Hall, was an incredible opportunity.
I love all of July Talk's positive and empowering messages. Safe spaces, inclusion, equality, strength, passion, love, and diversity to name a few. Ironically, and likely due to such a limited space to see the band, and everyone wanting to get close, emotions ran a little high, and there was some bad behaviour that I witnessed among many on the dance floor.
But by the time July Talk started playing, all was forgotten and right with the world as one of the best bands Canada has produced performed an incredible set of favourites and recent hits, plus a brand new tune called "Repeat" that was played along with "The Garden" for the encore. Videos from my personal standout tunes are below and follow the link to their setlist.
Please heed July Talk's advice and be nice to each other, be peaceful, understanding and accepting. Remember, you don’t know what someone else is going through.
