Martha Wainwright at Lost Evenings VII - Concert Photos

After hearing of Canadian singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright for many years, I finally got to hear her music live. She was the first performer to grace the main stage on the first night of Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto. Her set featured her fantastic vocals dripping with power, emotion and raw expression, and her equally impassioned accompanying guitar playing.

Her set featured tunes from her latest album, Love Will Be Reborn, which is broadly about finding life and love after divorce. I found a point of connection as she sang about finding unexpected love; a second chance at love. I feel similarly lucky to have found a second chance at love later in life, so the themes resonated strongly with me.
