Hamilton Ontario's The Dirty Nil have become one of my favourite bands. Their songs have a great power pop meets punk aesthetic with some good old metal sprinkled in. I was excited when I saw their name on the lineup for Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto and their set did not disappoint.
Their set opened with one of my favourite tunes from their amazing 2018 album Master Volume, "That’s What Heaven Feels Like" and continued with some new tunes from their latest album Free Rein to Passions, before returning to Master Volume for "No Weaknesses", "Pain of Infinity", "Bathed in Light", "Smoking is Magic" and then back to the new album for "The Light, the Void and Everything" which came with the message that there's no god, but it’s beautiful to be alive and we should do some loving while we're able and to try not to be ungrateful, and more, including tunes from 2021's Fuck Art.
