The Dirty Nil at Lost Evenings VII - Concert Photos

Hamilton Ontario's The Dirty Nil have become one of my favourite bands. Their songs have a great power pop meets punk aesthetic with some good old metal sprinkled in. I was excited when I saw their name on the lineup for Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto and their set did not disappoint.

Their set opened with one of my favourite tunes from their amazing 2018 album Master Volume, "That’s What Heaven Feels Like" and continued with some new tunes from their latest album Free Rein to Passions, before returning to Master Volume for "No Weaknesses", "Pain of Infinity", "Bathed in Light", "Smoking is Magic" and then back to the new album for "The Light, the Void and Everything" which came with the message that there's no god, but it’s beautiful to be alive and we should do some loving while we're able and to try not to be ungrateful, and more, including tunes from 2021's Fuck Art. The OBGMs at Lost Evenings VII - Concert Photos

The OBGMs were the first band on the main stage on day three of Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto.

Their set was fucking crazy. They got the crowd amped and moshing, taking advantage of every minute of their allotted set time to dole out their particular brand of musical insanity. 

I first witnessed an OBGMs show back in 2013 at Indie Week. If they were a baby band when I saw them, then I was a baby photographer then. We’ve both come a long way since then. Take a look at those photos if you don't believe me.

Thunder Queens at Lost Evenings VII - Concert Photos

Thunder Queens are from London Ontario and they make a great big glorious noise.

I caught Thunder Queens earlier this summer at Riverfest Elora and I was impressed with the sound they make. This set on the Nick Alexander Stage at Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto solidified that. They made quite a buzz with the crowd that witnessed their set, too.

Their cover of "Cannonball" by The Breeders was a cool addition to their set.

Guilhem is a singer-songwriter from Montreal and he performed on the Nick Alexander Stage at Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto.

Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls on Night 2 at Lost Evenings VII - Concert Photos

One of the best things about Frank Turner's Lost Evenings VII in Toronto had to be the fact that we got to see four Frank Turner performances. This second night show as all about the first five albums, Sleep Is for the Week, Love Ire & Song, Poetry of the Deed, England Keep My Bones and Tape Deck Heart.

That's right, a full headlining set focused on Frank's first five albums with some deep cuts and many stories. "To Take You Home", which is about a girlfriend from Paris who dumped him on her doorstep, "Substitute", which came with the statement, if music was the food of love I’d be a fat romantic, one of my personal and philosophical favourite "Glory Hallelujah", a song about atheism and human-power where everybody can bounce, and "Photosynthesis", an all-time Frank-favourite to close the show with a wall of hugs.
