When you take pictures of bands, you tend to look way to much at the members of the band. You zoom in for sharpness, remove noise, look at composition. It can get to be a bit much. Especially for a guy like me who usually doesn't forget a face. So when Basements took to the stage at The Silver Dollar Room on June 18 for NXNE, I knew I had seen the singer before. But I've never seen Basements. I knew I had shot the singer before. But for some reason I didn't think he was the lead singer when I shot him. Then I remembered. He also plays with Fast Romantics. And at that point I turned and found that I had been standing next to Fast Romantics. Small world.
But Basements were here to do their thing. And their thing is power pop. Two guitars, bass and drums power pop. Cool riffs over tight hard rock tunes. They're from Toronto and I think they did a great job of winning over the crowd. Will I see these guys again? You bet I will.
