NXNE 2016: Father John Misty at The Portlands - Concert Pictures
My mistake was the same as many others'. As a very peripheral listener, I was taking Father John Misty too seriously. Live on stage, the sardonic parody that J. Tillman is performing as Father John Misty becomes blatantly obvious. And it's at that point that it becomes a little puzzling that he and his band are headlining at a festival like NXNE's Portlands festival. Although I think that it's with the lights and dry ice and an audience hungry to worship at the altar of Father Misty that it all comes together as a rock spectacle and dare I say it, religious experience.
